My name is Kyra Zacharias and I am a sophomore attending Detroit Country Day High School. I became interested in the Hermelin Brain Cancer Center starting when I was 7 years old, running 5k’s to raise money for the growth of brain cancer research. This annual fundraiser is called Head for the Cure, and I run on my family’s team, #ZachAttackCancer. Additionally, I was introduced to neuroscience because my mom is a physician in that department of the Henry Ford Health System. This summer (2024) I began a neuroscience clinical fellowship to learn more about the brain, and diseases and treatments that go along with it. Lastly, I have been committed to the Henry Ford Health System volunteer team, volunteering in pet therapy, radiology, and mammography. I have so much pride in the work that the neuro department does for brain tumor patients and their families, and I hope Kyra’s Cookies or Kicking Cancer can create a long-lasting impact.
